The Bears are back!
On evening of the 5th of May, 2010, the Greater Sudbury Police Service responded to a Bear Complaint in the area of Covington Drive, Garson.
A resident had reported seeing a mother bear and two cubs. The mother bear did act aggressively towards officers but did eventually leave the area. The Ministry of Natural Resources has set traps in area.
The return of spring has naturally led to increased Black bear activity. Several steps can be taken to reduce nuisance bear complaints:
- Keep garbage and recycling inside until the day of pick-up
- Clean garbage cans and recycling bins to remove food odors
- Do not fill bird feeders or feed pets outside
- Clean barbeques of grease and food residue
- Do not place meat scraps or sweet foods in outdoor composters
The Greater Sudbury Police would also like to remind the public not to approach bears and remain inside until they have left the area.
